The University of Arkansas Education Renewal Zone and Northwest Arkansas Education Service Cooperative are proud to sponsor the first Middle Level Institute on July 22-23, 2008. The institute will be held at the Jones Center for Families at 922 E. Emma Ave., Springdale, Ark.

What is the Northwest Arkansas Education Renewal Zone (ERZ)?

In 2003, the Arkansas General Assembly established Education Renewal Zones across the state to promote collaboration among public schools, education service cooperatives, colleges and universities, and parents and communities.

The Northwest Arkansas ERZ was established in 2005 to address the needs of schools in Washington, Benton and Madison counties and is located on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. The Northwest Arkansas ERZ's objective is to improve student achievement. Centralizing resources allows schools in Northwest Arkansas access to financial, cultural and technological support.

Partners in the Northwest Arkansas ERZ are working to

  • improve school performance.
  • focus professional development resources including those from the Northwest Arkansas Education Service Cooperative, the UA College of Education and Health Professions in Fayetteville, and the Math and Science Education Partnership.
  • use data for strategic planning to improve student achievement.
  • interact with parents and students to promote student achievement.
  • support area school projects that focus on student achievement.
  • develop long-term partnerships among Northwest Arkansas schools.
